History

History of Everview Retreat

One Sunday morning after a casual walk to the corner shop in Emerald Beach, two coffees and strawberry jam on a slice of toast, we spotted "land for sale in Canowindra" in a Sydney newspaper.

I leaned over to Liz & said "how about we check it out?" After a couple of phone calls a meeting was set up and a trip planned. Two weeks later we loaded up & set off for Canowindra from Coffs Harbour. Staying in Cowra, having eaten a large takeaway Chinese meal, we awoke early and set off to see the land.

The estate agent was waiting for us as we arrived. After hurried introductions he drove us to where a sloping hill (over a creek) and around a winding bend. The property was good "billy goat country" and was pretty unsuitable to access and build on. So was the next one.

The third property was located between Canowindra and Cowra. We drove down between a vineyard, up a steep rise, through a gate and onto a flat area on top of this rocky hill. The views were spectacular it felt like home. So after a  good nights sleep, and over a latte and cake, we decided  to buy what would become Everview Retreat. With 11.5 acres of land , million dollar views and no buildings or infrastructure we could start with bare canvas and make it out own. We found out later that Canowindra means "home"

This concluded two years of extensive market research to find an area suitable to build our dream - unique, luxury, boutique, self contained accommodation. The Cowra /Canowindra area with it's existing tourism infrastructure, natural beauty, proximity to Sydney, Canberra and regional areas was as perfect as our chosen location. There was, and is, no other accommodation with 5 star appointments in the area.(Currently 73% of our guests visit  from Sydney and Canberra.)

The question now was "how do we create something which is truly unique?" The property held the answer. We would harvest the granite and basalt from the land and build solid stone cottages.

Some ask " why Everview? " Our guests know the answer!
